Everybody is Having Sex.
Or at least it seems that way. Every show on TV, every movie trailer i see, everyone is screwing each others brains out. The shot above is from the trailer for "the other boleyn girl" and that shot is the tamest of the "seductive" scenes in the trailer. This is a movie that i would like to see, but come on. Even in the victorian period pieces, every one is having the sex. This taints the reality of what life is really like. I know lots of people have sex, but i mean the reality is, that not everyone out there is getting lucky all the damn time. I said to my wife last night that i was so sick of all the sex on TV and movies, and she said "you're getting old". I don't think it is a case of getting old, as much as it is a case of understanding life more realistically. I just think that the constant barrage of images of every one doing it totally distorts real life, real relationships and real sex. I think if you watch the Flight of the Concords "Business Time" this is a much clearer picture of the reality of sex.
Sexual tension has even made its way to the office with Pam and Jim's weird love affair. It's everywhere, and I think men are realistically made to feel like they are failures, or not as awesome, or are just lame if they are not getting any. Even the stupid fat guys on tv are getting laid. Jim Belushi has a hot wife on his show, Kevin whats his name on King of Queens has Leah Remini, Ray Romano was getting laid regularly on Everybody loves raymond.
I just have a problem with the psychological deposits left behind every time we see another couple having sex on tv or in the movies. I know i struggle with it. I start to question why i am not having more sex, Ross Gellar was having sex with Rachel. She was hot and he was a total dork. I am not a total dork, and i get to sleep next to a hot wife every night, but i am not having sex 5 nights a week...I have sex, I have more than some husbands I know and talk to, so this is not just a bitter rant from a guy who is not getting any.
I am concerned for our society and culture. A friend of mine once said "we can't treat women like they are a salad bar". The constant sex in film and television contributes to this kind of thinking. Thinking that we need to be serviced...and satisfied whenever we want to refill our bowl. I am just tired of it.
